Press Release: Support for Soma

On Tuesday, May 13 in Soma, an explosion in a coal mine resulted in fire and the entrapment of 787 miners. With 284 confirmed deaths and approximately 140 individuals still unaccounted for, this is by far the worst mining incident in Turkish history. Rescue efforts continue, but the tragedy is felt by all as protestors take to the streets. USAN offers its condolences to the Turkish people, especially the miners and their families. We feel and share your pain. The Turkish people have the full support of the Azerbaijani-American community and the greater Turkic-American community during this difficult time.
